Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane could be heading back to the Premier League after attracting interest from Newcastle United, Arsenal and Liverpool, according to reports.
The 28-year-old winger is attracting interest from clubs across Europe due to his unclear contract situation with Bayern Munich.
Sane’s current contract is due to expire in 10 months and Bayern have begun talks with Sane’s entourage over a renewal, but the talks “may break down”.

Sane could therefore be available on a free transfer next summer, with Newcastle “monitoring” his situation, as are Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal have strengthened in that area by signing Raheem Sterling from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal that included no option or obligation to buy.

Whether Arsenal sign Sterling on a permanent deal will depend on how he performs at the Emirates Stadium this season, and it has been reported that they could turn to Sane if he fails to live up to expectations.

Newcastle struggling to sign former Manchester City star
Bayern Munich are keen to sign several key players to new contracts in a bid to fend off interest from the Premier League, and Sane is just one example.
Attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala is another player with an uncertain future, with his contract due to expire in 2026 and Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all interested in him.
Bayern cannot afford to pay the high wages of Premier League clubs, so players like Sane and Musiala could move to England next summer.
Newcastle are keen to build a squad that can consistently challenge for trophies and signing a player of Sane’s quality would be a strong statement of that intention.
Their interest in the former Manchester City man comes after Anthony Gordon was linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.
The deal agreed between Newcastle and Liverpool would see Gordon move to Anfield for £70 million and Joe Gomez move to St James’ Park for £30 million.
However, the deal, which was only being considered because Newcastle needed to comply with Premier League financial rules, was ultimately shelved as Newcastle instead sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.
Newcastle’s interest in Sane could mean a move for Gordon, while manager Eddie Howe may want him as a complement to Miguel Almiron, who is not part of the manager’s long-term plans and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
Newcastle set to target England star in January
Meanwhile, Newcastle are reportedly considering a January move for attacking midfielder Angel Gomes, who has flourished at Lille since leaving Manchester United in 2020.
The 24-year-old was presented with his first two England caps by manager Lee Carsley in recent Nations League wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland.
Like Sane, Gomez’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season but he has no intention of signing an extension, meaning he could be available on a free transfer next summer.
However, Newcastle are reportedly set to make a move in January in a bid to win the race for Gomez.
The Toon have also been linked with a move for free agent midfielder Adrien Rabiot, but his £220,000-a-week wage demands make a deal difficult.
Rabiot is also keen to play in Europe and is reluctant to move to St James’ Park after Newcastle failed to qualify last season.
Leroy Sane could be a great addition for Newcastle
Sane moved to Manchester City from Schalke in 2016 and made 135 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals and providing 43 assists.
In a four-year period between 2016 and 2020, the Germany international won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and three League Cups with City.
He joined Bayern in a £55million deal in 2020 amid rumours of a rift with Pep Guardiola and has since become one of the German giants’ most important players.
Sane has made 175 appearances for Bayern so far, scoring 48 goals and providing 50 assists, and last season he showed his ability to create chances, averaging 2.7 shots and 2.7 key passes per game.
He has yet to feature this season as he is recovering from groin surgery, but was on the bench for Bayern’s recent game against Holstein Kiel.
Sane could be a big signing for Newcastle so it will be interesting to see how this story develops and whether Vincent Kompany’s side can persuade Sane to sign a new contract on a reduced wage.
